Dental Aesthetics

This field of dentistry involves different types of dental treatment to improve the appearance: correcting broken teeth and those damaged by decay or stained, correcting spaces between the teeth (known as diastema), whitening, and the placement of dental piercings.

Your smile is one of the first things others notice about you. If you have discoloured, stained, crooked or broken teeth, or spaces between your teeth or misalignment, this can affect the way you interact with others, and inhibit your laugh and smile.

Using the latest techniques and materials, the dental aesthetic specialist will make subtle changes to your teeth, restoring your attractive and natural smile, thereby raising your self-esteem and improving well-being.

Techniques used by Santa Madalena clinic to enhance the appearance are:

1. Aesthetic restoration

Natural tooth colouring provides an excellent solution for broken teeth and those damaged by decay, and replacing unsightly amalgam fillings which are old and/or stained.

2. Aesthetic veneers

The veneer is an extremely thin ceramic or composite layer glued onto natural teeth in order to correct their shape and colour. This treatment is the most conservative aesthetic solution for a wide variety of dental problems and is often used in combination with tooth whitening techniques.

3. Tooth whitening

This procedure is used to lighten the colour of the teeth, making them whiter.

It can be done in two ways:

  • In the surgery, in the space of about an hour, gel is applied to the tooth surface and activated using a leisure light;

  • Using an impression tray or groove measured to fit in the patient's mouth, a bleaching gel can be applied in the comfort of your home, in accordance with instructions provided by your specialist.

In some cases, these techniques may complement each other, and the effect is lasts longer when they are used together.

Sometimes a tooth that has been devitalised due to damage or decay loses its whiteness and can be whitened by means of internal bleaching.

Ask your dentist for advice on which whitening technique is best suited for you.

4. Dental piercing

A dental piercing is a stud placed on the visible surface of a tooth. A wide range of shapes and colours are available to suit your taste.
